Tony
Nelssen is running for City Council in the upcoming City
of Scottsdale election. Tony has lived in Scottsdale
since 1987. Tony and his wife Marg began building their
own home with the help of friends and neighbors after
purchasing land in 1982 in what was then part of Maricopa
County. Upon annexation into the City of Scottsdale in
1983 he became very active in community affairs and
continues to be a notable citizen advocate. Tony helped
create and implement ordinance level changes that have
preserved neighborhoods and made Scottsdale a better and
safer place to live. Tony served on the Parks and
Recreation commission for 5 1/2 years and served as chair
of that commission. He helped implement improvements to:
The Via Linda Senior Center, Eldorado Park, a skate park
for our youth, Chaparral Park and Dog Park, Pinnacle Peak
Park and Trail, a functional Master Plan trails system and
better community services for our citizens. He also served
on the Planning Commission for 2 years until he resigned
to run for City council. Tony used his experience as a
citizen advocate to support resident's concerns with new
and sometimes imposing development. He brought new and
innovative ideas to the planning process and supports
historic Old Town and the revitalization of the Downtown,
Arts, and Business community. He knows as a councilman
that he can make changes toward a better, more responsive,
and accessible city government.
Tony is a native
Arizonan, and has witnessed vast changes to our
community. While some changes were positive, too many
were not. Explosive growth over the years has at
times hindered responsible government, and not all
development has been well thought out. We must now promote
new diversified business campuses that provide employment
centers to enrich our local economy. Scottsdale must
maintain its competitive edge in the valley while
retaining its character and western heritage.
Our Sonoran
Desert is a rare amenity, a driving force for our Tourism
Industry, and essential for sustaining Scottsdale's unique
character and quality of life. Over time too much of
Scottsdale's character and natural resources have been
lost to inconsistent planning and insensitive development
standards. Scottsdale must require development to
embrace our natural environment, not replace it, and
development must maintain the "Sense of Place" that
Scottsdale is/was famous for.
Tony will
work to bring balance and stability to our community by
being responsive, and requiring those in the decision
process to be accountable to the taxpayers they serve.
Intelligent debate with accurate facts facilitates good
decisions, and prompt implementation by staff members who
bring our goals to fruition. Tony's strong leadership
skills have, and will continue to, bring about better
government for WE THE PEOPLE of Scottsdale.
Today,
all campaigns are very expensive. Tony welcomes your
support in helping him win a Scottsdale City Councilman seat in the upcoming
City of Scottsdale March 14, 2006 election. Donations to Tony's campaign
